Miss P’s preschool hosted a special Ladybug themed tea for Mother’s Day today. She wanted a dress to match the occasion, so the Ladybug Bubble Tea Dress was put in motion. Excuse the pics–they were taken in a hurry this morning 🙂
This is the Sunshine Dress by Shwin Designs. I’ve had the pattern for a while, but this is my first crack at it. It’s got some unique features, including a drawstring bottom which creates the bubble effect, and a curved bodice and skirt-super cute! And, it has inseam pockets!!!
I used Kona cotton for the bodice and bottom band, and the loveliest organic cotton from Birch Fabric’s Charley Harper line that Miss P picked out herself at the fabric store. My friend, Jodi, introduced me to a local gem of a fabric shop that I cannot believe I’d never been to before! Let me just say that I am in love! They carry many of the beautiful fabrics you see and covet online including lovely Japanese fabrics like Nani Iro and Kokka. To be able to touch and feel them in person is such a treat for a fabric dork like myself!
Two quick buttons for the closure at the back and below is the drawstring bottom. I was feeling lazy and almost skipped the bottom part and left the skirt twirly but I’m so glad I added it—the bubble feature really makes this dress! And Miss P couldn’t stop twirling–a sign of a winner!
Hooray for pockets!
Here she is in the classroom for party time!
Happy Mother’s Day!!!
